9/11 rescue dog dies of cancer
Jake, a 12 year old black Labrador rescue dog who searched among the smoking debris of 9/11 and the flooded rubble after Hurricane Katrina, has died of cancer. He was put to sleep Wednesday after a last stroll through the fields and a dip in the creek near his home in Oakley, Utah. Jake and his owner, Mary Flood, worked together as members of Utah Task Force 1, a federal search-and-rescue team.
RIP Jake - and thank you so much for your service to mankind!

Mary -
Thanks so much for stopping by. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure Jake was a loyal friend and a great partner to you. The story caught my eye because we used to have a dog named Jake too.
