Interesting article on "How childbirth went industrial"
This is kind of a long article, but pretty interesting reading. I knew that the invention of forceps was the introduction of the first technique that could save both the baby and the mother. I had no idea that obstetrical forceps were kept secret for more than a century and only used by one family of doctors for 3 generations! There are also some interesting points reguarding the art of delivering babies vs. the science of delivering babies which help to explain the high rate of c/s in our country.
