Patterns and symmetry

Do you think they know that they were learning about patterns and symmetry when they were creating stuff with perler beads today?

There is a little flat plastic shape, like a square or a star or something, that has pegs sticking up off of it. You put the little plastic beads onto the pegs. Once you've got it designed the way you want it, a grown up takes a piece of paper that comes with the beads (it looks like wax paper) and lays it on top. Then you iron it for around 30 seconds and pop it free from the form and turn it over and iron the other side. The little beads melt together to form your design. The beads we bought glow in the dark.
