Our trip to IRT
The kids and I went to the Indiana Repertory Theatre on Thursday to see Dance Kaleidoscope's special mini-matinee of Silk Road. We saw three pieces which were all fabulous. I think Keithen may have actually enjoyed it more than the girls did.
I was very moved by the part of China Boy that represented DK's Artistic Director David Hochoy's birth. The figure of his mother was very strong and beautiful. The costumes for this first piece were beautiful.
Keithen enjoyed the second piece, which was an excerpt from Orchid from the Cave about a man's journey from warrior to mystic. He also liked any parts where there were lots of drums.
The final piece was a world premiere about Chinese calligraphy. It was really neat to see how they made calligraphy against the cyc with black silk scarves that all the dancers carried. Laura Glover did an excellent job of lighting the whole concert, but the use of side lighting and the cyc in this piece was truely beautiful.

Long ago and far away, before kids, I used to stage manage for DK. The dancers are all different now but the crew is pretty much the same as the group I worked with years ago.
