Obama on the "gas tax holiday"

This "relief" plan that Clinton and McCain support would only save the average American $25-30.

“This is typical of what Washington does. You got an emergency, people are getting crushed. People are having a tough time, and instead of really trying to solve the problem you use a gimmick,” say Obama.

If you use only 10 gals. a week, at 18 cents a gal. it would save 93.60 a year, I'll take it..

    But -
    1. it's only for 3 mos, not the whole year
    2. who's to say that the oil companies will actually pass the savings on to us
    3. would it drive up demand and thus drive up the price again
    4. and that money is supposed to go towards keeping our roads up.....what would happen to road repair and the jobs with that lost tax money?

I know it's for only 3 months, and I agree with you Crassia, Hillary & McCain are both pandering. However, I think your points 2 thru 4 are with out merit
with the possible exception of #2, it would drive up demand.
With all the taxes that the fed collects from us, they should be able to find that 18 cents some where for the roads, besides, who's says that the fed will actually use the 18 cents for roads. do they now ?
the answer to lower gas prices is more supply..
    I do agree with you,
dropping the fed tax on gas is a very small drop in the bucket, but I'm for lowering taxes where ever and when ever possible.
